Newspapers AND NEWS SITES
Advice
Newspapers and news sites on the internet are a wonderful resource for language learners. There is nothing like the latest news to motivate language learners, stimulate debate, discussion and argument.
Most internet sites are designed for native speakers and may be difficult for the majority of language learners to understand fully. If this is the case you could try:
1. Use pictorial and video clues to help you understand the text. For technical or scientific news items you might be able to see a labelled diagram.
2. Look at the news item in your own language first. On some news sites (e.g. Euronews) you can easily swop from one language to another.
3. Find a news site that is written in shorter, simpler language.
